Mount Bromo & Ijen Crater Photography Tour

As mentioned in previous articles, Mount Bromo is a favorite destination not only for travelers but also for photographers. The dramatic volcanic landscape and spectacular sunrise views make it one of the most photogenic locations in Indonesia.

Another remarkable destination is Kawah Ijen, famous for its natural sulfur mining and the rare Blue Fire phenomenon. This place offers unique photography opportunities. Visitors can photograph the daily activities of sulfur miners as they carry heavy loads of sulfur from the crater, as well as capture incredible natural scenes such as the blue flames at night and even the Milky Way under clear skies.

The sulfur miners at Ijen are known for their extraordinary strength, often carrying baskets of sulfur weighing around 60–80 kilograms. These moments create powerful human-interest photography subjects that attract photographers from around the world.

Because of these unique photographic opportunities, joining a Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater photography tour is a very rewarding experience. Participants will have the chance to capture stunning landscapes, volcanic activity, and authentic local life throughout the journey.

Photography Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Surabaya

• 09:30 – Meeting point at Juanda International Airport, Surabaya

• 10:00 – Departure to the Mount Ijen area

• Lunch stop at Probolinggo

• Arrival at Kali Jampit / Blawan village, check-in hotel

• Photography session (Human Interest photography) in Kali Jampit village

• Return to hotel, dinner and rest

Day 2 – Ijen Blue Fire & Sulfur Miners Photography

• 01:00 – Departure from hotel to Paltuding base camp

• Trekking to Ijen Crater (approximately 1.5 hours). Breakfast box will be provided

• 03:00 – Arrival at the crater and photography session:

  • Blue Fire phenomenon

  • Volcanic landscape photography

  • Human interest photography of sulfur miners

• 08:00 – Descend from Mount Ijen

• Stop at Kali Pait waterfall for photography

• 10:00 – Return to hotel and prepare for check-out

• 11:30 – Departure to Mount Bromo

• Lunch and dinner at local restaurants

• 20:00 – Arrival at Cemara Lawang village, check-in hotel and rest

Day 3 – Mount Bromo Sunrise Photography

• 02:00 – Jeep transfer to Mount Pananjakan viewpoint for sunrise photography

• 03:30 – Arrival at Pananjakan and enjoy coffee or tea with the local Tengger community

• 04:00 – Photography session begins

• 06:00 – Sunrise landscape photography of Mount Bromo

• Continue to Lautan Pasir (Sea of Sand) for landscape and human-interest photography

• 09:00 – Return to hotel, breakfast and preparation for check-out

• 11:00 – Transfer to Juanda Airport, Surabaya

• 15:00 – Airport drop-off (End of program)
