About Banyuwangi Airport

Banyuwangi International Airport, formerly known as Blimbingsari Airport (IATA: BWX), is located near Banyuwangi city in East Java, Indonesia. The airport began operations in December 2010 and has since become the main gateway for travelers visiting Ijen Crater and the eastern part of Java.

Initially, the runway was 1,400 meters long, allowing only small propeller aircraft such as the Cessna 208 to operate. In 2012, the runway was extended to 1,800 meters, enabling larger turboprop aircraft such as the ATR 72 and Fokker 50 to land at the airport.

Passenger traffic has grown rapidly. In 2011, the airport served only 7,826 passengers, but by 2015 it handled more than 110,000 passengers, reflecting the increasing popularity of tourism in Banyuwangi.

There are also plans to extend the runway to 2,200 meters, which will allow jet aircraft such as the Airbus A320, Boeing 737, and Bombardier CRJ to operate direct flights from major cities such as Jakarta.
